Expensive but worth it Nov 14, 2009
By Mark A. Rothenberg Lets get the elephant in the room introduced. These blocks are incredibly expensive. I had a tough time justifying spending this kind of money on wooden blocks. HOWEVER...I started looking for blocks for my 3 year old son after he had a great time at a kid's museum that had sturdy wooden blocks. I then began researching blocks. You can find larger quantities of wooden blocks but they are made from lesser woods and they typically come from China. Although the blocks from China are supposedly lab tested and certified, I would rather buy blocks from a reputable company in the US where I can have some confidence that the blocks are not treated with all kinds of garbage. Therefore, I bit the bullet and ordered these.
These blocks are high quality maple wood. However, they are incredibly heavy. Therefore, if your child builds towers, make sure they understand that if the tower collapses, he or she is in for an "ouch" if one of these things falls on your foot or head. That sad, these blocks are a heavy and sturdy maple; there are plenty of shapes; and this package provides a solid assortment of blocks to build large buildings and other structures. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra few bucks and buy this set.

Sturdy set with many uses Dec 29, 2010
By Louise B. Andrew MD JD This is a very well made set of blocks that are pleasing in appearance and appear capable of lasting for many years. There is no finish, so no worries about toxicity etc. They are heavy enough that damage to the blocks would be no issue, but damage to the toddler could be depending on how tall the structure! Although the pieces are by and large well finished, some of the ends are rough-hewn which would appear to be a manufacturing defect. No splinters, just slightly unaesthetic. At $2/block, not cheap and the set seems rather small compared to whatever I had as a child, but at least there are add-on modules which we probably will buy later if these are as pleasing as they seemed on first receipt.
