3Watch out for customer service  Sep 16, 2010
By B. Turner "blt"
We liked the space inside this tent. We made it into one large room and have space for two cots and a futon to make up a bed, room for a rocking chair, table and lamp for reading, and a portable potty for night. It's like our own little cabin inside.

The tent set up like most tents, except that the two window parts are difficult to thread through the fiberglass pole. So that's a negative. They sewed the gap too close to get the pole into. I worked a long time to squeeze it in.

The worst part was after a Texas storm - the gap between the rain fly and the roof (all netting) separated in the high winds and rain came in. There isn't much overlap. We had to abandon the tent after the metal pole in front bent nearly 90 degrees, a top fiberglass roof pole split in two and broke, and the rainfly came half off. Everything was soaked inside. We huddled in the vehicle until morning and dried everything out.

We contacted the manufacturer about the damage, and they were kind enough to walk us through the website to replace the poles. There was no argument about it, and they volunteered to send them. I was very excited, as I had never camped in the tent since we were rained out our first attempt. When the replacement package arrived, one end of the box was only sealed on one of the four sides with the flaps coming down left, up, right, down instead of opposite sides and tape across it. The box had a sizeable gap in the end from that arrangement and one could completely reach in and take whatever was shipped. Looking inside, no poles, no paper, nothing was left. UPS delivered an empty box, and hurried from the door before I could get to it to receive the package. We called UPS immediately (no more than 5 minutes after he drove off and we were sure nothing was inside), but they wouldn't contact the driver, or look in the truck when it got back from that day's deliveries. They said to contact the sender.

We called the tent manufacturer to tell them what happened and were treated very rudely by the customer service rep. UPS was stubborn in not wanting to help either. No one wants to take responsibility - it's the other guy's fault. Tent people says it has been delivered, they are done with their obligation. UPS says the tent people are at fault in packaging it. My husband spent 3 hours on the phone arguing between the two, and we seem to be making a little progress, but this is not a customer service friendly company. We are hoping UPS will send a check for the value, and the tent company will resend the poles, and seal the package better this time. But all this could have been worked out with cordial verbal professionalism from the tent people and UPS, rather than the unkind manner of their address.

And I hope we get it in time for the fall season of camping. The tent, once set up, is nice. It's just difficult to deal with if something goes wrong. And we've never used the tent for a weekend of camping yet.

I hope to update this post with positive results should we get more cooperation in the future. It could be a bad employee the company isn't aware of.
