 Nice looking and well made, but painful Jul 20, 2011

We bought this bed to transition our 23 month old son out of his crib. It was easy to assemble but a bit labor intensive; it took my husband about two hours to put it together, and he's a handy DIYer. The bed is really nice-looking and has modern lines, which I really appreciate. Also it appears well made, with two layers of "wood" under the mattress area for extra support. And it doesn't take up a lot of space in my son's small room, another big plus. My son took to it right away and was sleeping in the bed exclusively by day two, making his transition easy as pie. I think it helps that the bed is very low to the ground and therefore not scary to youngsters.
However, I have to take two stars away because the bed is a small platform bed, meaning that the edges stick out about two inches from the mattress on all sides. Every time my son flings himself into the bed (which happens A LOT with an active two-year-old), he bangs his ankles, shins, and knees really hard. He now has giant bruises and welts all over his legs. I was hoping that this would improve once he learned to navigate around the frame but after having observed him use the bed for three weeks with no improvement, I think this is just part of the hazard of having this type of bed. I know several adults who are having similar trouble with their own platform beds. This isn't a problem I'm willing to accept for my toddler, however. This bed will likely be exchanged for something a little less hazardous to small legs.

We got this bed and im a matter of 90 mins my husband was able to put it together. It's very easy to assemble. Our 21 month old son loves this bed. It's easy for him to get in and out of bed w/o needing mom and dad's help. He hasn't fallen out and God knows he's rolls around ALOT in his sleep! I love it because its easy to clean and change the bed sheets out of it. His Serta crib mattress fits perfectly and we have no need to stuff anything anywhere for it to fit! LOVE THIS BED!

My son loves his "big boy" bed. We never had a crib so we went from co-sleeping to this. We did a lot of research in order to find something that we would all be happy with. At first I was worried about the rails since I had read reviews that little ones had bumped their heads during the night. I got a pool noodle and cut it in half and down the sides to create a padding. My son usually slept like a pinwheel so I was sure that we would have a problem with the rails. After 2 weeks we had no incidents (the bed is still in our room) with the rails so we removed the noodles. I love the look of the bed. It is super low to the floor which works for us in our bedroom since we have a low platform bed ourselves. The little shelf on the end is perfect for all his bedtime books and bedtime stuff. It is not real wood so if that is what you are looking for this is not it. It looks very clean and modern. It was very easy to assemble and fits your standard crib mattress.

Just a warning that there are no solid wood parts on this bed frame - every piece is particle board with veneer or paint. Particle board contains bits of wood along with a high percentage of binding agents which could include formaldehyde, very toxic to children!
