More Cons than Pros Jan 12, 2012
By First Time Momma This ride-on toy is designed for looks and not functionality. As cute as this toy is and as sturdy as the construction may be, it is a terrible design for riding. We are very disappointed. We received this as a gift for our 16 month old who is 32" tall, and we hoped he would grow into really enjoying it.
The seat is too wide for small bottoms. Add to this that the sides of the seat are right angles of wood, and it is very uncomfortable for a small child to ride. The wideness of the seat also makes it impossible for younger children with shorter legs to even reach the ground. I suspect that it would still be quite uncomfortable even once they can touch the ground, since the corners hit mid-thigh and can really dig in.
The seat lid is designed to lift off completely. A hinge would have been nice- we will probably have to add one. With the loose design, the lid is easily bumped out of place and can be difficult for a small child to replace. It's especially hard to fix the lid if it shifts while a child is climbing on. I don't know what the designer was thinking, but they were not thinking of 1-3 year olds in typical play.
If you want a place to put your child's feet up so you can push them around there is no real place to put feet. We place legs straight forward under the handle but it's not great. We may add a wooden piece crossways through the "cab" (extending beyond the cab to the sides)to give a place for feet to rest. If the legs are not placed up, it's hard not to get them caught in the wheels if the parent is pushing instead of the child self-propelling.
The wooden construction is solid, and the rubber tires for grip are a nice touch.
In summary, this toy falls short of its intended purpose. It is not comfortable or easy to use for the intended age group (1-3 years old), despite being quite cute and very solidly built. It is primarily useful for the child pushing (not riding) and filling the open seat with blocks. We will be looking for a different ride-on toy that keeps its demographic in mind even if we have to sacrifice the cute factor a little.

Looks wonderful and eco friendly, BUT... Nov 18, 2010
By tayjade I love how this fire engine looks, but that is about it! We were disappointed when it arrived with one wheel off the truck and it wasn't east to put back on. We bought it for my 12 month old son thinking it would be great for him to learn to ride, but unfortunately he still cannot ride it alone. It is just too heavy. My four year old daughter can ride it, but even she has a difficult time getting it to move around the house. Everything about it is heavy from the wheels to the wood. The opening seat is also dangerous in terms of fingers getting caught in it. My son and daughter both have gotten hurt on it more than once, so I finally taped it shut to avoid any more injuries. It is a work of art no doubt, but not practical for a young child to ride around on or play with alone.

I was pleasently surprised when this arrived already assembled-yay!!! It is very sturdy, well made and very nice to look at. My son loves being pushed around on it. He is still a little short and his feet don't rest flat on the ground. He's 31 inches tall. That does not keep him away from it he rests his feet on the body of the fire truck and demands to be pushed around. We were hesitant to buy this because of the price but it was worth every penny!!
